Nivan Lodge provides a welcoming and safe environment for children between two and a half and school age. We are open 36 weeks a year with terms aligned within Kent school terms. We are open every weekday morning during term time, 09.00 a.m. - 12.00 noon. We operate a minimum of a 1:6 staff/child ratio. We do not operate a 'catchment area' scheme, all children are welcome and we aim to ensure that all sections of the community have access to the nursery.
The curriculum is based on the requirements for the pre-school child's all-round development. The morning timetable is structured and designed to include all aspects of development at every session in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage as defined by the Department for Education. The new revised Early Years framework came into force in September 2012 and has redefined the areas of learning for pre school children. The three main areas which are particularly crucial for igniting curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and to form relationships and thrive, are known as 'Prime' areas, and are:
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Within our curriculum we also support children in four 'Specific' areas, through which the Prime areas are strengthened and applied. These are:
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Also included in The Nivan curriculum are; nature, music, cooking, gardening, P.E. and woodwork. To encourage awareness of cultural diversity, when appropriate we also celebrate various festivals such as Chinese New Year and Diwali, and we have great fun for Red Nose Day and Children in Need!
Weekly Activities and Themes
Apart from the first week of each term, when there is a need to provide time and care for settling in, all nursery weeks have a theme to provide variety, education and stimulate interest. These themes will underpin both the 'prime and specific' areas of learning
